Frequently Asked Questions

What is the wait period for your centre?

If you are requiring infant care, the wait period can be over one year. We recommend adding your child to our list when you first learn of your need for childcare.

Do I have to put my child on the wait list to get a spot?

Yes, the waitlist application gives us a lot of preliminary information for contact and placement consideration.

If I can’t get an infant placement and find alternate care but still wish to be on the wait for Wee Care, do I move to the bottom of the list?

No, your placement on the wait list is based on the first date of contact. You would not move to the bottom of the list but would be slotted into the next age group in order of your contact date.

Why is the waiting period so long?

We receive a number of requests for placement, sometimes daily. Some people have been on our wait list for 1.5 or more years. It is the sheer volume of people on the list that makes it so long.
As a developmental centre we reserve some spaces for families with children with special needs.
Additionally, we try to accommodate sibling registration.
There are not enough spaces for childcare needs in the area. Many families put themselves on several waitlists, hoping for a space to open up.

Do I have to complete a separate wait list application for each family member?

Yes, we do require a separate application for each sibling.
Even families who already have a child registered must complete the wait list form in order for a sibling to be considered for placement.

What services are available to my child with special needs?

We have a part-time physiotherapist and musical therapist on site. We also have an inclusion coordinator on staff.
Each therapist works directly with the children with special needs. Sometimes combining forces and coordinating their schedules to reach each child.
The team (include teaching staff) and the families comes together to create goals and objectives to help children reach their full potential. A plan (IPP Individual Program Plan) will be developed and followed with periodic updates occurring as needed.
We have many outside specialist come to visit the children while they are in our care (with parent permission and knowledge). These specialist can include Interventionists, speech and language etc.

What does part time attendance mean at Wee Care?

Part time can be either Monday/Wednesday and Friday or Tuesday/Thursday. There will be no variations.
We do not offer mornings or afternoon only programming.
We do not offer part time care for infants.

Do you offer before and/or after school care? Summer only care?

We offer care for full days only and children must be of pre-school age. We do not offer seasonal, weekly, or monthly care.

What are the ratios in the classrooms?

The ratios are different in each classroom depending on the age level of the children in the classroom.
In our infant room 4 – 18months, the ratio is 1-4
In the toddler room 18mths – 3yrs, the ratio is 1-7
In the preschool room 3yrs+, the ratio is 1-8
We have 10 infants and 3 staff in our infant room. 12 toddlers with 3 staff in the toddler rooms and 12 or 14 children with 3 staff in the preschool room.
Our ratios are higher than some other centres as we do have children with extra needs at the centre.

Is there a charge for adding my child’s name on the wait list?

No, we do not charge for placing your child on the wait list.
We encourage expectant parents to add their child’s name on several wait lists to ensure care is available when needed.
We do ask that you contact us to remove your name from the list if you have found alternate care that you are satisfied with.
Regulated centres in the province are not allowed to collect a registration fee.

What if I do not have complete information for the wait list? Like child’s name?

Using an fill in like “baby” or “infant” would be just fine. An approximate birthdate is fine.
You may contact us to update the information when you have the details if you wish.

Help, I’m having trouble submitting the waitlist application.

If you are having trouble sending the application, please review the form to ensure that all required components are answered. Do not use auto-fill to complete the form. Try to submit again, or try later. You might also try a different device.

Do you offer tours?

You are invited to come for a tour if your child is offered a space at Wee Care. We generally hold tours at 10 when it is least disruptive to the activities of the centre.
At this time, we do not offer public tours.

Are your fees subsidized?

Yes, they are. Families pay the rate after the subsidy is applied.
Our rates are $22.89 per day for an infant spot after a $23.00 subsidy.
Our rates are $23.93 per day for a toddler or preschool spot after a $18.25 subsidy.

Can I get other help with the fees?

Yes, you may apply for additional child care funding. These subsidies are based on a number of factors including income and number of children in the family.
We apply the subsidy but are not involved in the application or approval of this subsidy.
